About

Katarina Ilic

Artist. Creative. Thinker. Storyteller.

Hey there, I'm Kat! As you've probably figured out by now, I'm a second year student at the University of Oregon. My chosen field of study is a major in Media Studies through the School of Journalism and Communication, and a minor in history.

I've been a creative soul for as long as I can remember. When I was in pre-school, I used to make my teachers write down the stories I'd tell to them so I could then copy the letters into my own makeshift picture books. For my seventh birthday I asked for a crafting kit. For my eighth birthday I asked for a sewing machine. Over the pandemic I taught myself to crochet. And when I started high school, the first elective I picked was journalism. Creativity has been a constant my entire life.

I graduated from Tigard High School in 2025 with the desire to continue my passion for journalism. However when I got to UO, I realized there was more to it. I didn't want to just continue learning about journalism; I wanted to engulf the entire industry, understand how it all worked. Why do we consume the media we're drawn to? How does media intersect with every aspect of our life?

Throughout the past two years at UO I've called myself lucky to be given a variety of different opportunities. My first year I was a news reporter for the Daily Emerald. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to participate in the Experience Lisbon program through the SOJC, where I was co-editor for our team's online magazine. This year, I'm proud to be one of the co-project managers for StudentCivic Works under JLI. You also may see me handing out Flock Cards at ID Card Services throughout the day!
